Seeking Proposals: UI/UX Designer (Contract)

The Institute for People, Place, and Possibility (IP3) is seeking a UX/UI designer to collaborate in the discovery and design process for a new web-based network mapping tool. The designer will:

  • Co-lead a discovery process with IP3’s client and end-users to refine objectives, user personas, and use cases; 

  • Review and update an existing landscape assessment of network mapping tools to identify feature alignment with goals and objectives;

  • Develop a visual and interaction design that achieves the identified functional requirements
     

Project Objectives
 

Our client is a national health alliance with multiple stakeholders. They seek to visualize the geographic and topical scope and breadth of their network participants. The goal is to strengthen their impact and efficacy through aligned work. IP3 will facilitate the discovery and MVP implementation of this tool. We seek a UI/UX Designer to:

  • Co-facilitate a discovery process with the client and selected stakeholders to  identify use cases, user personas, and clarify tool objectives

  • Develop user flows and design web interfaces for a network mapping tool that meets both the alliance goals and end-user needs

  • Collaborate to conduct, analyze, and report on user research and existing tools to inform designs and to ensure designs are easily implemented during web development

 

Key Responsibilities
 

The UI/UX designer will collaborate with the IP3 team over the course of the project. The designer will:
 

Phase One: Discovery to Inform Design 

(anticipated: October through mid-November 2021)

  • Co-facilitate initial user research as desired (research will happen remotely)

  • Lead user research analysis and identify findings to inform the design

  • Create initial design assets, including user personas and proposed user flows

  • Review and update an existing landscape assessment of similar tools to fill gaps as needed based on the discovery process

 

Phase Two: Design for MVP Development 

(anticipated: mid-November through the end of December 2021)

  • Design initial end-to-end wireframes for team review 

  • Revise wireframes and create a user interface (UI) style guide based on team and user feedback

  • Assist with development and documentation of user stories, technical requirements, product roadmaps, etc. as desired

 

Phase Three: Support/Consultation as needed during MVP Development 

(anticipated: January through February 2022)

  • A developer will implement based on the designs. The UI/UX Consultant will be available to support/answer questions as features are implemented based on the designs. 

 

Phase Four: Reflection and Future Planning 

(anticipated March through April 2022) 

  • Conduct second round of user and stakeholder discovery sessions with the MVP to gather feedback and identify goals for future development

  • Develop a summary report of findings from discovery sessions

  • Outline scope of work/propose for full development and identify needed resources 
     

Experience & Qualifications

 

  • Significant experience in UX/UI, including a design portfolio

  • Experience in designing with equity and accessibility at the forefront

  • Excellent communication skills to present to and collaborate with diverse stakeholders

  • Self-starter, able to work independently & collaboratively as part of a (remote) team

  • Desire to work in a mission-driven environment

  • Experience working in public health and/or general knowledge about the field of public health and the “healthy communities movement” (preferred)

  • Experience with network mapping or related (preferred)

 

Commitment & Compensation
 

This is a short-term contract position starting no later than mid-October. While the design work can be conducted asynchronously, the selected contractor should be available for meetings and discovery sessions between the hours of 8-5 ET. 

 

The IP3 team is remote and uses virtual collaboration platforms including Zoom, Google Workspace, Slack and Basecamp. Candidates are expected to work remotely for this position. This position will be supervised by IP3’s Director of Products and Partnerships, with weekly check-ins and ongoing support.
