2024 was another busy year for us at IP3! We work hard all year to build capacity and civic muscle to advance equitable health and well-being in communities across the nation. We advance the vital conditions for well-being, stewardship practices, and multi-solving to work towards thriving together, no exceptions. We leverage Community Commons, Community Commons Spaces, IP3 ASSESS, and staff expertise and consulting to advance this work. Today, we are reflecting on our work, feeling grateful for our team and partners, and looking forward to the coming year. Here’s a recap of our work in 2024:
Knowledge Management & Learning
Knowledge Management is the process of capturing, distributing, and effectively using knowledge. In general, but especially online, there is a need to gather and structure knowledge within an organization, network, or community of practice, so that it can be learned, used, shared, and leveraged. Community Commons Spaces equip organizations and communities with a customizable online content library for knowledge management, powered by the Community Commons back-end knowledgebase. This year, we worked with partners to curate and organize content supporting collaborative and network learning. Highlights include:
Launching the Inland Empire Vital Conditions Network Space
IP3 partnered with the Inland Empire Community Foundation to create an online hub where the new Inland Empire Vital Conditions Network network can convene, learn, connect with regional partners and resources, and engage with regional data. The hub provides a dedicated space where individuals and organizations share and discover resources and deepen their understanding of the region’s unique strengths and needs through data dashboards powered by IP3 ASSESS. Explore the Space!
Launching the Communities in Context Space
IP3 partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the CDC Foundation to publish the Communities in Context Space focused on Detroit, Michigan. This Space offers insight into the complex relationship between mental health and housing in this dynamic and diverse community. The Space includes data dashboards exploring housing, mental health, adverse childhood experiences; community voice including photos and quotes; and a comprehensive resource library to explore these issues both in Detroit and nationally. Explore the Space!
In 2025, we look forward to growing these resources and diving into new topics with our partners. Stay tuned for several new Community Commons Spaces launching in 2025, supporting local, state, and national networks. Interested in a Community Commons Space? Data in Context
IP3 provides data in context through software, knowledge products, and consulting services. Data in context means bringing together quantitative and qualitative data and exploring it in relationship to place, lived experience, collection methods, and community systems. We value people-centered, multi-solving approaches that start with shared sense making. Our approach includes sourcing data from publicly-available sources and organizing it into action-oriented frameworks. We use maps, visualizations, and community voices to strengthen data access, understanding, and implications. We acknowledge that data collection is imperfect—we need community insights to make sense of the numbers, reveal possibilities, and drive collective action. Here are some highlights from our data work this year:
IP3 ASSESS
It’s been another great year for IP3 ASSESS, which continues to grow and evolve with feedback from our community of users. We’ve had the privilege of working with clients around the nation who are committed to community health and well-being. This year we launched a bunch of new features, including the popular IP3 ASSESS Data Dashboards.
NEW! We Recently Launched Data Dashboards Powered by IP3 ASSESS: Insight Anywhere & Instant Insight
Data dashboards powered by IP3 ASSESS showcase data around a specific topic, project, or initiative. Dashboards are dynamic and engaging, sharing data through different visualizations and showcasing changes over time and population breakouts where possible. Dashboards are public and easily embeddable on any website. Instant Insight is perfect for those looking for a simple, fast solution to exploring and sharing community data related to a specific topic area, while Insight Everywhere is perfect for those looking to explore and share a curated set of data indicators for a multitude of communities (up to all counties) in the U.S. Learn more.
Support Clients to Deploy the Well-Being Survey
IP3 and partners at the Community Initiative Network provided coaching to multiple collaboratives as they deployed the Well-Being Survey—a validated survey that classifies an individual as “thriving,” “struggling” or “suffering.” Respondents who rate their current and future life high on the ladder are “thriving”. “Suffering” means that respondents rate both their current and future life low on the ladder. And struggling is any other combination of placement. Once you know whether and to what extent people are thriving in your community, you can identify where and how to best take action to improve the degree to which your community is thriving—to improve the well-being score. By closely monitoring self-reported well-being, we can get a pulse of our communities, implement early interventions when needed, and tailor interventions accordingly. Learn more about the Well-Being Survey.
Data Consultation
IP3 provided consultation and support to communities using data to inform priorities to advance equitable well-being, including indicator selection, data collection, and integration of new data into IP3 ASSESS to support community dialogue and action. Highlights include:
Launched Community Indicator Library, a living library of data indicators, or metrics, that changemakers use to measure health, well-being, and equity in their communities
Launched the Health Risks and Enabling Factors Framework
A deep dive into water quality data to support at-risk communities in Texas
Integration of primary data collected through the National College Health Assessment at Oklahoma State University to build out the Opioid & Substance Use data framework and supplement national- and state-sourced secondary data on IP3 ASSESS.
Finally, the IP3 data team worked hard to update hundreds of measures across our data frameworks. This includes sourcing and processing indicators from over 100 sources and integrating them into IP3 ASSESS for you. Sources updated this year include the American Community Survey, PLACES, County Health Rankings and Roadmaps, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, County Business Patterns, Map the Meal Gap, National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network, and many more! Explore recent data updates.
In 2025, we have big plans for adding new features and data to IP3 ASSESS. Follow along to get updates on our product roadmap, informed by our partners. Interested in IP3 ASSESS and/or data support? Learn more and complete the form below.
